Celebrating Columbus' Discovery of America - 500 Years Later

The volunteers from the Suffolk Marine Museum (now the Long Island Maritime Museum) in West Sayville set out for one heck of a parade. After a one night stopover at the staging point in Sheepshead Bay, the fog eerily thick, hundreds of boats from another era started to appear as the fog lifted. This was one of the most amazing sights I've ever seen. There were a handful of us youngsters w/ a bunch of old salty dogs. We spent 3 days aboard these bay vessels w/ no plumbing or electricity. The Priscilla (then rigged as a schooner) was at the time 104 years old. The Modesty (a sloop) was younger but just as classic. This was some trip, let me tell you!...
